Call for Applications: Leibniz R Journalist in Residence Fellowship 2024

The Leibniz R Journalist in Residence Fellowship Programme offers media professionals with a focus on issues of urban, rural and regional development a guest stay of up to two months at an institution of the Leibniz Research Network Spatial Knowledge for Society and Environment – Leibniz R.

The Leibniz R network analyses social, ecological and economic processes and their interactions in their spatial contexts. It points out space-related options for action and contributes to anchoring spatial knowledge more broadly in society and politics and making it more usable. Further information can also be found on the Leibniz website of our network.

The host institution for the fourth edition of the fellowship programme is the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) in Dresden.

The IOER develops scientific principles, analytical tools and instruments for the sustainable development and transformation of neighbourhoods, cities and regions. To this end, it conducts cross-scale research into the interactions and feedbacks between the natural environment, people and technologies, as well as options for stewardship and planning. With its research, the IOER aims to initiate, accelerate and implement deep and comprehensive change. It contributes to bringing the development of landscapes and settlement areas into harmony with the natural foundations of life and to minimising environmental risks so that people can thrive within ecological boundaries.

Conditions of participation

A stay of eight weeks is desirable, but the duration can be arranged individually. As a fellow, you will spend this time researching a project of your own choice related to spatial sciences and research at the IOER. You will also organise a workshop for our Leibniz R junior researchers on a freely chosen topic at the interface between media and science.

A scholarship of 4,000 euros per month is offered for the duration of the stay. The host research institution provides a workplace, offers flexible forms of organisation of work location and working hours and arranges contacts with researchers. It enables participation in various events and the free use of all available research resources. It also reimburses material costs up to a total of 2,000 euros.
